Westbridge gets nod to build 230-MW solar-plus-storage plant in Alberta

Canadian solar developer Westbridge Renewable Energy Corp (CVE:WEB) said today that one of its subsidiaries has won clearance to build its flagship 230-MW solar-plus-storage facility and the associated substation in Alberta.

Specifically, the Alberta Utilities Commission (AUC) has given the green light to the Georgetown Solar + Energy Storage Project near Mossleigh in Vulcan County. The scheme calls for the construction of a solar park with a direct current (DC) capacity of up to 278 MWp and a battery energy storage system (BESS) of up to 100 MW/200 MWh.

Including this project, Westbridge Renewable Energy has five utility-scale solar and four BESS developments in North America, as well as a BESS scheme in the UK. Their combined capacity amounts to 1,285 MWp of solar and 500 MW of BESS.

Last week, the company unveiled the inclusion of the 300-MWp Eastervale solar-plus-storage development in Provost, Alberta, to its portfolio.
