May 11 (SeeNews) - Electric equipment maker WEG (BVMF:WEGE3) said on Monday it will supply a 275-MVA, 525-kV transformer for the 207-MW Santa Vitoria do Palmar wind complex in Brazil's Rio Grande do Sul state.

This transformer is the first of its kind deployed in the country by WEG as well as one of the largest ever made by the company. Since its weight amounts to 308 tonnes, the equipment will require special transportation to the project site, the company said.

The start of commercial operation of the complex is scheduled for September of this year, according to information on the website of project developer Atlantic Energias Renovaveis SA. Once operational, the complex will be generating enough power to supply 400,000 local homes, noted WEG.

Back in April, Brazil's Rio Grande do Sul state allowed Acciona Windpower Brasil to start construction of a wind turbine factory through which to implement its 153-MW supply contract with Atlantic for the Santa Vitoria do Palmar complex.
