Weekly round-up of renewable energy PPA news (June 11-17)

June 18 (Renewables Now) - In the past week Renewables Now covered a number of stories about the signing of power purchase agreements (PPA), or tenders awarding such, involving companies such as E.on, Fortum and NextEra, among others. Below is a list of deals:

-- Arizona water company opts for cheap solar amid pressure to buy coal power

Arizona water supplier the Central Arizona Project (CAP) has approved a 20-year solar PPA for 30 MW amid hints from the US Interior Department that it might oblige it to buy power from a coal-fired plant, due to close in 2019.

-- New bill outlines plan for renewables auctions in Ukraine

The Ukrainian government will be reviewing a draft law envisaging the introduction of competitive auctions aimed at promoting renewable energy generation in the country. Winners in the auctions will be awarded 20-year PPAs with a guaranteed buyer.

-- India's Acme wins 125 MW in Uttar Pradesh solar tenders

Indian firm Acme Solar Holdings Pvt Ltd has secured 125 MW of grid-connected solar projects in Uttar Pradesh state under two separate auctions held by the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI).

-- Tata Power wins 150-MW solar project in Maharashtra

The renewable energy business of Indian utility Tata Power Co Ltd (BOM:500400) has won a 150-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) project in the state of Maharashtra and is preparing to sign a 25-year PPA.

German utility E.on SE (ETR:EOAN) plans to build a 100-MW solar farm in Texas after securing a long-term PPA for half of the project.

-- Fortum-Rusnano grabs 823 MW in Russian wind tender

Finnish utility Fortum Oyj (HEL:FORTUM) has won the right to build 110 MW of solar parks in Russia in the country's latest clean energy tender, while its partnership with Rusnano has secured 823 MW of wind projects.

-- Fuel cell power prices fall in Connecticut tender

The average price for fuel cell energy has fallen to USD 0.116 per kWh in the latest clean energy competition in the US state of Connecticut, from USD 0.156/kWh in the 2011/2012 Section 127 procurement. Four successful projects now need to negotiate 20-year PPAs with power utilities Eversource and United Illuminating.

GCL New Energy Holdings Ltd (HKG:0451) said today it has secured a long-term PPA for its 110-MW Pioneer greenfield solar project in Colorado.

NextEra Energy Resources will deliver 300 MW of wind power to AT&T Inc (NYSE:T) under a PPA for power from two wind parks in Texas’ Wilbarger and Hardeman Counties.
