Finnish technology group Wartsila Corp (HEL:WRT1V) announced on Tuesday it will provide gearbox repair services in Brazil for wind turbines manufactured by Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS).
The five-year contract with Vestas do Brasil Energia Eolica is a first for Wartsila in the country. The services will be carried out at its newly opened workshop in Cabo de Santo Agostinho, Pernambuco state.
Under the initial scope of the agreement, Wartsila will provide full repair works on four different gearbox models with a 2-MW average capacity. The services include disassembly, inspection, supply of original parts, assembly and testing. The company has already concluded two full repairs last month.
Wartsila's general manager of operations for South America, Diego Colicchia, noted that the workshop is 100% operational and has the potential to become Brazil's largest repair and testing of wind turbine gearboxes provider.
