Voltalia SA (EPA:VLTSA) announced on Monday it has signed with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy SA (BME:SGRE) a purchase contract for 163 MW of wind turbines.
In all, the French company is buying 47 G-132 wind turbines to be installed at the site of the Ventos da Serra do Mel wind project in Brazil's Rio Grande do Norte state. This is the second time Siemens Gamesa is selected by Voltalia.
This purchase agreement also initiates the construction phase of the firm's largest project in the country. "We are planning to progressively commission the turbines in the course of 2020, up to three years ahead of the start of the 20-year power sale contracts", said Voltalia's CEO Sebastien Clerc.
Currently, the European firm has 433 MW of installed capacity between wind and hybrid thermal/solar in Brazil, and close to 2 GW of projects under development, the company noted.
