Voltalia seals 90-MW wind power sale contract in Brazil

First turbines commissioned at the VSM wind farms

French renewables company Voltalia SA (EPA:VLTSA) said today it has inked a 19-year power sale contract for a 90-MW wind farm in the Brazilian state of Bahia.

The company noted that this latest project lays the foundation for a new wind power cluster in Canudos that will have a capacity of more than 1 GW.

“We are replicating in the State of Bahia some key competitive advantages of our [2.4-GW] Serra Branca cluster in Rio Grande do Norte, including excellent wind regime, economies of scale and grid connexion ownership," commented Sebastien Clerc, CEO of Voltalia. The company is following a strategy to develop a large group of projects on the same site and then keeping some of them, while selling the rest.

The 90-MW wind park is expected to be commissioned by the end of 2022.
