France’s Voltalia SA (EPA:VLTSA) has kicked off the construction of two UK solar projects totalling 90 MW, both of which were successful in the country’s latest Contracts for Difference (CfD) auction round.
The renewable power plants operator on Thursday confirmed the CfD awards for the Clifton and Higher Stockbridge projects. Each of the two 45-MW schemes won 20-year contracts.
To be located in Dorset, South West England, the photovoltaic (PV) pars will have a combined output that will be enough to supply more than 50,700 residents per year. The Clifton plant will be installed near Yeovil, while the Higher Stockbridge plant will be situated in Sherbourne. They are planned to be switched on in the last quarter of 2023 and the first quarter of 2024, respectively.
The outcome of the CfD auction’s fourth allocation round was announced in July. It secured nearly 11 GW of clean energy, including almost 0.9 GW of onshore wind and more than 2.2 GW of solar.
In the UK, Voltalia has a 179-MW portfolio of solar and battery storage assets under operation and construction. The French firm has installed 193 MW of solar plants for third-party clients since setting foot in the country in 2012.
