A record number of solar power facilities, almost 90, were commissioned in Vietnam in the second quarter of 2019, according to figures announced by the Electricity of Vietnam (EVN) on Friday.
The combined capacity of the solar plants that entered operation in the period was about 4,000 MWp, bringing the total installed capacity in the country to 6,314 MWp. The number of operational solar installations in Vietnam was 102 as of June 2019.
To keep up with the new capacity added, EVN has been expanding and upgrading its transmission network.
Overall, the number of new solar and wind power plants in the country was 113, with a combined capacity of 5,700 MW. In addition, as of August 2020, there were 23,000 MW of planned solar and wind projects approved in Vietnam, according to EVN.
