Vestas Wind Systems A/S (CPH:VWS) has secured firm and unconditional orders to supply 502 MW of its turbines for wind projects in the US.
The Danish wind turbine maker said on Friday it has been selected to supply to US utility MidAmerican Energy Co, owned by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway Inc (NYSE:BRK.A), 170 turbines for the 2,000-MW Wind XI wind complex in Iowa. More specifically, Vestas will deliver and commission 170 of its V110-2.0 MW machines. Delivery is planned for the second quarter of 2018, while commissioning will follow in the fourt quarter of the same year. The equipment will be made at Vestas’ production facilities in Colorado.
The MidAmerican contract is for a total capacity of 302 MW and includes previously purchased PTC (production tax credit) components for the project, Vestas noted without disclosing financial details. A five-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM500) service agreement is also part of the deal.
In a separate press release on Saturday, Vestas said it will supply and commission 100 pieces of the V110-2.0 MW turbines for another US project. Deliveries are slated to begin in the first quarter of next year. The wind farm, whose name and location were not disclosed, is to be commissioned in the last three months of 2018.
That deal also includes a multi-year Active Output Management 4000 (AOM4000) service agreement.
In the last few days Vestas announced a series of wind turbine orders in Europe, North and South America, and Australia. In the first half of 2017 the company has announced 4,005 MW of orders.
