Dec 26, 2014 - The Windham Solid Waste Management District in the US state of Vermont has received 11 proposals for the construction of an up to 5-MW solar array on a former landfill in the town of Brattleboro.
The district will be assessing the bids and possibly conducting interviews with some of the applicants before making a decision by March 2015, its executive director Bob Spencer said, as cited by the Brattleboro Reformer on Thursday.
The initial deadline for interested parties to file proposals was December 15, but it was extended by a week because the district was in need of more time to locate a detailed diagram of the landfill's topography. This delay is unlikely to adversely affect the original schedule, according to Spencer.
Of the 11 proposals, four came from Vermont-based firms, namely Soveren Solar, Integrated Solar, Green Lantern and Windham Solar. The district has also received offers from companies headquartered in California, Maryland and Massachusetts.
The benefits to Windham Solid Waste associated with the photovoltaic (PV) installation include receiving utility credits and generating revenue from leasing land to the developer. On the other hand, the developer itself will get solar tax credits.
Spencer mentioned, as quoted by the newspaper, that he does not expect the Vermont Public Service Board to obstruct the planned deployment of solar capacity.
