Austrian power producer Verbund AG (VIE:VER) has initiated a cooperation with Potsdam-based Visiolar GmbH to develop up to 2 GW of solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in Germany.
The two partners have so far identified 13 land plots spanning over 1,400 ha (3,459 acres) for the development of such projects. This area would be enough to install up to 1.4 GWp of solar capacity, Verbund estimates.
Visiolar, part of the Lindhorst Group, is seen to eventually provide a maximum of 2,000 ha of its land for this purpose.
This new partnership aligns with Verbund’s strategy to expand in the field of solar and wind power generation. The company’s goal for 2030 is to have solar PV and onshore wind account for between 20% and 25% of its overall power production.
