Renewable power producer Ventient Energy has sealed an agreement to acquire 443 MW of wind and solar power assets in Spain in a move that will expand its business on the Iberian Peninsula.
The Edinburgh, UK-based company said on Thursday it will take possession of 203 MW of onshore wind and 240 MW of hybrid solar projects to be realised on its wind sites. The target assets are located in the region of Castilla y Leon.
Ventient Energy’s partner in the deal is Spain’s Vapat. Financial details about the purchase were kept under wraps.
“Together with our current wind farms, we are already broadening our business through creating state-of-the-art hybrid plants. These will provide the most efficient energy generation from each site,” said CEO Mark Jones.
The transaction is pending regulatory clearance and is expected to be finalised early next year. After its completion, Ventient Energy will own 2.8 GW of installed onshore wind capacity.
The pan-European company, which operates in Belgium, France, Germany, Portugal, Spain and the UK, has set a goal of having more than 2 GW of capacity in Iberia and 790 MW in Spain alone.
