(SeeNews) - Nov 18, 2013 - The proposal of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from Friday to reduce the biofuel blend to petrol (gasoline) and diesel in 2014 may affect Brazil's ethanol exports to the USA, Brazilian daily Diario do Nordeste has said.<br /> EPA has proposed to cut the volume of biofuel that has to be blended to petrol to 15.52 billion gallons (59 bn litres) next year, or by 2.95 billion less than originally planned. All the petrol that is sold in the USA currently contains up to 10% of ethanol, known as E10. EPA's proposal will be subject to public comment for 60 days after it is published in the Federal Registry.<br /> In 2012, Brazil's ethanol exports to the USA stood at USD 1.5 billion (EUR 1.11bn), equal to 68% of Brazilian total ethanol shipments. According to Leticia Phillips, representative of Brazilian sugarcane industry association (UNICA) in North America, the Brazilian ethanol accounted for 3% of the biofuels consumption in USA last year.<br /> (USD 1 = EUR 0.740)
