(ADPnews) - Oct 8, 2010 - US real estate investment trust (REIT) ProLogis (NYSE:PLD) said yesterday it has agreed with US utility Southern California Edison (SCE) to install solar system totalling 25 MW.
The deal is the second phase of a larger agreement between the companies, under which ProLogis has to develop 100 MW rooftop solar photovoltaic (PV) installations to SCE.
The 25 MW solar project will cover 4.8 million sq ft (445,934 sq m) of roof space leased by ProLogis. The system will be owned and run by SCE, while ProLogis as the site's host will provide development management services. Construction is slated for this autumn.
ProLogis said this project increases its total partnership with SCE to 38 MW of solar energy, including first-tranche installations and a pilot project finished in 2008.
With the last deal the company's global renewable energy portfolio doubles to 50 MW, according to vice president of renewable energy for ProLogis, Drew Torbin. So far, ProLogis has installed or is developing solar projects on 41 buildings in France, Germany, Japan, Spain and the US.
