US First Solar to raise production capacity by 500 MW
(ADPnews) - Oct 15, 2010 - US thin-film solar modules maker First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) said yesterday it plans to set up two plants, increasing its output capacity by 500 MW a year, to meet robust demand for solar modules.
The two four-line plants will be established in the USA and Vietnam and are expected to become operational in 2012. They will open 600 jobs each and will be designed for extra production capacity.
First Solar said the new projects together with expansions of existing plants carried out this year will boost its output capacity to over 2.7 GW in 2012, compared with 1.4 GW in the current year.
"These expansions provide proximity to growing U.S. demand while supporting our roadmap to drive down the cost of clean, sustainable solar electricity," CEO Rob Gillette said.
