US 8minurenergy, Gestamp Solar get interconnection agreements for 355 MW of solar power in California
Aug 24, 2011 - US solar power firm 8minutenergy Renewables LLC and Gestamp Solar, part of Spanish engineer Corporacion Gestamp, have signed generation interconnection agreements (GIA) for 355 MW of solar power capacity in California.
The deal was signed with California's Imperial Irrigation District (IID).
8minutenergy and Gestamp Solar's five joint utility-scale solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in the Imperial Valley have completed IID's Transitional Cluster Phase I and Facility Study phases and are ready for construction, the partners said in a statement on Monday.
The first of the projects is the 50 MW Chocolate Mountains Solar Farm, which is expected to produce enough electricity to supply 25,000 homes a year. The partners expect their Chocolate Mountains and Calipatria II solar projects to become operational in the next 15 months.
The projects are seen to create 1,000 construction jobs and 55 permanent jobs.
8minutenergy said it would complete a total of 12 solar projects in the Imperial Valley with a total economic output of USD 2.3 billion (EUR 1.6bn).
