Uruguay's Rocha expects completion of 40-MW wind plant

Uruguay's Rocha department said Monday it will soon have access to additional power supplies with the completion of the 40-MW Carape II wind project in the adjacent Maldonado department and a transmission line to Rocha.

The government said that all 14 turbines have been installed at Carape II, while the installation of pylons for the 40-km (25-mile) transmission line will conclude this week.

The wind farm is built by Vengano SA next to the 50-MW Carape I wind plant of Fingano SA. Argentina-based Corporacion America SA and Spanish Grupo San Jose SA (BME:GSJ) are shareholders in both companies.

Carape II will be able to produce an average of 155 GWh a year, or 12.9 GWh per month, for sales to Uruguayan state-owned utility UTE during 20 years.
