Urban Renewables builds up 10-MW rooftop solar portfolio in Singapore

Singapore’s Urban Renewables Pte Ltd has created a 10-MW rooftop solar portfolio in Singapore in less than nine months since signing its first projects, the company said on Tuesday.

The first project was agreed in March 2021 with steel roofing and wall cladding company NS BlueScope Lysaght for its plant in Singapore.

Urban Renewables, set up in June 2020, has so far inked more than 20 power purchase agreements (PPAs) for over 30 commercial and industrial buildings. It has also set up partnerships with NS BlueScope Lysaght, Singapore electricity retailer Geneco and REC Solar, and has launched electric vehicle (EV) charging services.

According to the announcement, the company is preparing to expand into Australia, Hong Kong and Malaysia.

“In addition to the drive by many companies towards becoming more sustainable, the recent spike in energy prices has seen a significant increase in the demand from buildings owners for solar rooftop installations,” commented managing director Edgare Kerkwijk.

Urban Renewables aims to own and operate 100 MW of photovoltaic (PV) rooftop systems by end-2025.
