January 25 (Renewables Now) – Voltalia SA (EPA:VLTSA) announced Thursday that its 128-MW wind project Ventos da Serra do Mel 2 (VSM 2) in Brazil was ready for the construction phase.
The VSM 2 wind farm is located in the Brazilian state Rio Grande do Norte in the northeastern region of the country where Voltalia also developed several other facilities that comprise the Serra Branca cluster. One of them is the VSM 1, a 163-MW wind plant that Voltalia began building in the same region last year.
The VSM 2 will be equipped with 36 turbines supplied by Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (BME:SGRE) with the commissioning scheduled for 2020.
Voltalia has secured two long-term power purchase agreements (PPAs) for the VSM 2. The first PPA for 64 MW will start in 2021, while the other for the remaining 64 MW, begins in 2024.
The electricity generated before the PPAs kick in will be sold on the free market, Voltalia said.
