UPDATE - Merck to also buy solar power in US from Ørsted

US pharmaceutical giant Merck & Co Inc (NYSE:MRK), doing business as MSD, has agreed to buy power from a 200-MW solar project that is being developed by Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) in Texas.

The announcement was made by the Danish renewables major the same day EDP Renovaveis SA (ELI:EDPR) said it has signed with MSD a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) tied to a 40-MW wind park in Spain.

Ørsted did not disclose the terms of its own PPA with MSD.

The contracted US project, namely the Armadillo Solar Center, will be built in Navarro County, where more than 600,000 modules will be mounted on single-axis trackers to generate over 400,000 MWh of electricity annually. The plant is expected to be completed by early 2023.
