Thanks to newly-signed deals, Clean Power Alliance (CPA) will be adding a total of 365 MW of solar power generating capacity to its portfolio plus 205 MW of battery energy storage.
About 65 MW of solar capacity will come from the Chalan project in California’s Kern County, which will be bundled with 25 MW/100 MWh of energy storage. CPA has signed a 15-year contract for this facility with Origis Energy, the former announced last week. The solar park is seen to come online in December 2023.
As previously reported, 8minute Solar Energy has also inked a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA) with CPA for the output of the 300-MW Rexford 1 Solar & Storage Center in Tulare County, coming with a 180-MW/540-MWh battery system. This complex is expected to enter the construction phase in early 2022 and be completed in late 2023.
Together, Rexford 1 and Chalan will generate enough electricity to supply 158,000 Southern California homes, thus meeting about 8.5% of CPA’s overall demand.
CPA said it intends to add more clean-energy-plus-storage projects for which it is currently holding discussions. The Southern California-focused electricity provider will be releasing its next annual clean energy solicitation in mid-October, it added.
