UNICA expects Brazil Centre-South 2013/14 sugar cane crop to hit record 600m t - report

(SeeNews) - Feb 1, 2013 - Brazil's largest sugar cane producing region Centre-South may hit a record high 600 million tonnes of crushed sugar cane in the forthcoming 2013/2014 crop year, the president of Brazilian Sugarcane Industry Association (UNICA), Elizabeth Farina, told Reuters yesterday.

UNICA's latest forecast, released in December last year, had projected that a total 532 million tonnes of sugar cane will be crushed during the current 2012/2013 crop year. This would translate into a 4.52% increase compared to 2011/2012.

The sugar cane crop year in Brazil usually starts on April 1 and ends on March 31 the next year.
