March 18 (Renewables Now) - The Tennessee Valley Authority is awaiting bids in a tender that will contract 200 MW of renewable energy projects, possibly with battery storage.

The electric utility has launched a Request for Proposals (RfP) with a deadline for bids of April 24, 2020. All projects taking part in the competition have to be able to become operational by the end of 2023.

According to the RfP documents, released on Monday, TVA will accept proposals from both new stand-alone renewable energy resources and renewable energy projects with integrated battery storage. All have to be located within its service area.

TVA will assess the proposals in May and June and announce winners in August. A month later, it will sign power purchase agreements (PPAs) with the selected projects.

During the past two years, TVA has procured more than 1,300 MW renewables capacity through similar RfPs. It noted that its renewables investments come in response to customer demand for cleaner energy.
