Aug 30, 2013 - German quality and safety testing organisation TUeV Rheinland will open a thin-film solar cells testing facility in Tamil Nadu, India, the Indo-Asian News Service (IANS) said on Wednesday.
The new laboratory in Sriperumbudur will be engaged in the assessment of energy yield of thin-film photovoltaic (PV) cells under various weather conditions and will aim to improve performance, TUeV Rheinland India’s general manager Kalyan Varma told the news agency in a phone interview. The total investment in the project is estimated at INR 20 million (USD 301,000/EUR 227,000).
The establishment of the facility is part of the PVKlima initiative of the German government, which will include Germany, India, the US, Italy, Japan and China. The project will be implemented by 2016, Varma explained.
TUeV Rheinland will take advantage of Tamil Nadu’s target to install 3,000 MW of solar parks by 2015 under its state solar policy, offering great opportunities for testing. “With sizeable investments coming into Tamil Nadu we see good business potential in the state. The company will be doubling its headcount in the state”, M Bhaskar, the head of TUeV Rheinland’s Indian arm, told IANS.
