Chinese solar manufacturer Trina Solar Co Ltd (SHA:688599) on Monday said it has started production of n-type cells at its 8-GW factory in Suqian, Jiangsu province.
The company will use the cells to produce its new generation Vertex N modules that offer power output up to 605 W and efficiency of up to 22.4%.
Construction of the factory started in July 2022 and the manufacturing equipment was in place at the end of November. Trina Solar said it was able to have the plant up and running by the end of 2022.
The facility will mainly produce 210 mm n-type i-TOPCon cells for the newly-launched Vertex N 605W modules. The company noted these are perfectly suitable for 104-metre (341.2 ft) long trackers.
“As p-type PERC approaches its efficiency limits, it is critical that production of n-type cells, which began to be commercialised last year, be stepped up,” its statement reads.
Trina Solar set up a pilot line of 500 MW n-type i-TOPCon modules based on the 210 mm product technology platform in 2021. It expects to reach a 30-GW module capacity for the 210mm n-type technology this year.
