French energy group TotalEnergies SE (EPA:TTE) and German truck manufacturer Daimler Truck AG today said they have agreed to partner on the development of ecosystems for hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks, supporting the decarbonisation of road freight transport in the EU.
The partnership covers areas such as hydrogen sourcing and logistics, dispensing of the fuel in service stations, development of hydrogen-based trucks and creation of a customer base.
TotalEnergies aims to directly or indirectly operate up to 150 hydrogen refueling stations in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg and France by 2030, while Daimler Truck plans to supply hydrogen-powered fuel-cell trucks in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg and France by 2025.
“Regarding the long-haul freight segment, we are convinced that CO2-neutral transportation will be enabled in the future by hydrogen-powered fuel cell trucks as well as purely battery-powered trucks,” said Mercedes-Benz Trucks head Karin Radstrom. “For this, we want to establish a pan-European hydrogen ecosystem together with strong partners such as TotalEnergies,” she added.
Both companies are members of the H2Accelerate consortium, which seeks to facilitate the roll-out of hydrogen trucks in Europe.
