France-based renewable energy company Total Eren and Australian mining firm Province Resources Ltd (ASX:PRL) have teamed up to work on an ambitious green hydrogen project in Western Australia.
In a stock exchange statement today, Province said the companies have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to conduct a feasibility study of the project that calls for the two-stage development of up to 8 GW in hybrid renewable energy capacity.
The HyEnergy ZERO CARBON HYDROGEN project is to be located in the shire of Carnarvon, in Western Australia's Gascoyne region. It will be equally owned by Total Eren and Province, with the French company to lead the renewable capacity development.
The partners aim to sign definitive agreements within four months.
"Given the recent drive by state and federal governments to quickly develop and advance the green hydrogen industry in Australia, I am confident this project will be of strategic national importance," said Province managing director David Frances.
Fabienne Demol of Total Eren commented that after solar, wind and storage, hydrogen is the next step of growth of renewable energies and that the partnership is an opportunity for the company to kick-off its hydrogen strategy worldwide.
