Toshiba to develop 3-MW solar PV plant in Hiroshima
(ADPnews) - Oct 14, 2010 - Japan's Toshiba Corp (TYO:6502) said on Wednesday it had secured a contract from The Chugoku Electric Power Co Inc (TYO:9504) to build a 3-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) plant in Hiroshima prefecture.
The company did not provide any financial details on the deal.
The Fukuyama solar facility, which is to be up and running in 2011, will bang out some 3.34 million kWh a year, enough to power 900 homes. The plant will include Choshu Industry multi-crystal PV modules. The produced electricity will be converted into alternating current (AC) by Toshiba's output power conditioners, which have conversion efficiency of 98.1%.
Toshiba plans to pursue other PV project deals and to focus on green energy and power-saving products in a bid to grow its business on the domestic and foreign market. The company expects the global solar PV systems market to grow to JPY 2.2 trillion (USD 27bn/EUR 19.2bn) in 2015.
