May 25 - Regaining its status as a leading European solar market, Spain is experiencing extraordinary growth, averaging 3 GW of solar installations per year since 2019. Its first year of exponential growth (3.5 GW installed in 2019) might be attributed to the 2017 auction deadlines, but the 2.6 GW of 2020 and expected 3 GW of 2021, tell a different tale. Spain now has a market that can afford to take on some risk, in which going for pure merchant projects is an increasingly-realistic option, while also still boasting an active PPA market.
