WGL Energy Systems, part of WGL Holdings Inc (NYSE:WGL), has agreed to develop a 3-MW ground-mounted solar array for Susquehanna University in central Pennsylvania.
The company has already commenced building the system, which will supply about 30% of the university’s electricity needs, it said in a press statement. The 12,000-panel installation at the Center for Environmental Education and Research (CEER) will have a capacity of 3.9 MW in direct current (DC).
WGL expects to complete the facility by the summer of 2018. Once this happens, it will be the largest university-sponsored solar array in the state, producing over 5,300 MWh of electricity per year. Susquehanna will be purchasing the power from WGL under a 25-year deal.
