December 4 (Renewables Now) - US software company HashCash Consultants on Wednesday announced plans for a peer-to-peer (P2P) trading platform for solar power in Germany.

The company plans to develop the Blockchain-based platform in partnership with an unnamed German solar power company.

The platform, through the use of smart contracts, would enable individuals who produce energy from photovoltaic panels for their own needs, called prosumers, to trade their excess production without the need for a public utility to act as an intermediary.

The proposed platform comes as people in Germany are turning towards renewable energy sources as the country is phasing out from nuclear power.
