SunPower Corp (NASDAQ:SPWR) announced today it has broken ground on a 28-MW solar photovoltaic (PV) park at the Vandenberg Air Force Base near Lompoc, California.
The solar company will build this behind-the-meter PV power system on land that has not been used since 2007. The Base will be buying the annual output of the array, estimated at 54,500 MWh, at a fixed price under a 25-year deal. All of the electricity will be used onsite.
The Air Force will keep all associated environmental credits. This project will contribute to its goal of meeting 25% of its power demand with renewables.
