to-the-point: Storage added to SunPower project at US Army post

US solar company SunPower Corp (NASDAQ:SPWR) said yesterday it has broken ground on a 10-MW solar project for the US military that has a new element added to it, a 1-MW energy storage system.

The solar array is being installed at the Redstone Arsenal US Army post in Alabama. The Army will buy 100% of the electricity produced at the site under a power purchase agreement (PPA).

SunPower is installing its Oasis power plant system at the site.

The project is part of the Army's efforts to reduce power costs at installations and enhance their energy independence.
