March 27 (Renewables Now) - Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA), which in November 2016 acquired solar installer SolarCity, will start taking orders for solar shingles in April, CEO Elon Musk said on Twitter.

The company in February said the solar roof launch is on track for the second half of 2017. Details on the price and an exact launch date are not available for now. Tesla has said the solar roofs will cost less than traditional roofs.

Four different types of solar tiles were presented by Tesla in October 2016. The solar roof is one element of a three-part solution by the company, including also energy storage and electric cars.
