to-the-point: Japan’s Fujinomiya city to regulate large solar, wind installations

The government of Fujinomiya city in Japan's Shizuoka Prefecture on Wednesday enforced an ordinance restricting the construction of utility-scale photovoltaic (PV) and wind plants, Nikkei BP reported.

The move is mainly aimed at preserving the landscape of Mount Fuji and its surrounding natural and living environment, according to the report. It concerns all ground-mounted solar parks covering an area of over 1,000 sq m and wind farms using turbines higher than 10 metres.

Power producers are now required to submit applications for such projects to the mayor. Facilities exceeding the permitted limits or located on “restricted areas” are completely ruled out.
