A task force, set up by the Japanese government to review the country’s feed-in tariff (FiT) programme for renewables, is considering launching an auction system for future photovoltaic (PV) projects in order to ensure competitive prices.
The panel, established by the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), comprises several academics, Bloomberg said Tuesday. Other moves considered by them include slashing the tariffs to a set rate or in accordance with installations.
The Japanese green energy market has been a very attractive destination since the country launched its FiT in July 2012 after the devastating earthquake and the subsequent Fukushima accident and nuclear crisis. Apart from solar, both wind and geothermal projects fall under the scheme.
