to-the-point: Ecuador creates new energy ministry

May 16 (Renewables Now) - Ecuador has formed a single ministry in charge of energy across both renewable and non-renewable resources.

According to presidential decree 399, published on Tuesday, all agencies under and/or attached to the former ministries of hydrocarbons, mining and electricity and renewable energy, will now be part of the Ministry of Energy and Non-Renewable Natural Resources.

In addition, the government also merged the National Institute of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy and the National Institute of Geological, Mining and Metallurgical Research, creating the Institute of Geological and Energy Research.
