to-the-point: Brazil launches new biofuels initiative

Brazil's Ministry of Mines and Energy launched on Tuesday the RenovaBio programme, an initiative that seeks to increase the share of renewable fuels in the national market.

The creation of RenovaBio comes to support the Brazilian commitment at COP 21, the ministry said.

In short, the programme will facilitate dialogue between the government and the private sector and focus on topics such as the role of biofuels in the energy mix based on environmental, economic and financial sustainability, security of supply, commercialisation and potential for the use of new biofuels.

Following the discussions, the joint proposal of activities is expected to be formalised in 2017 and then be released for public consultation.
