February 1 (Renewables Now) - Swedish thin film solar technology company Midsummer AB (STO:MIDS) said Thursday it will have a new head of module research and development (R&D) from March.

Klaus Wiegel will be in charge of the development of the next-generation flexible solar panels from March 1, 2019. He holds a Master of Science (MSc) in Physics and has served as research and production manager at Gällivare PhotoVoltaic (GPV).

”Mr Wiegel, with his extensive experience from both research and production of solar modules, will be a good addition as we intend to turn up our production rate further to meet the increased demand for our products”, said Midsummer CEO Sven Lindström. The company is expanding its in-house production of photovoltaic (PV) cells and flexible panels.

Last week, Midsummer announced it has recorded in 2018 the highest order intake in the company's history at SEK 265 million (USD 29.3m/EUR 25.6m). This was due to rising demand for its end products from the Californian market and the southwestern part of US.

Midsummer will present its annual report on March 22.
