Tesla to roll out 2 solar roof options soon, leave 2 for 2018

Tesla's textured glass tile roof

May 2 (Renewables Now) - Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) will launch two types of solar roof tiles this year and two early next year, the company’s CEO said at TED2017 last week.

According to Elon Musk, 15 years from now it will be unusual to have a roof that does not have solar.

The CEO tweeted in March that the company, which in November 2016 acquired solar installer SolarCity, would start taking orders for solar shingles in April. Details on the price and an exact launch date are not yet available, but the first two options are coming soon.

Tesla presented in October 2016 its solar roof tiles as an element of a three-part solution by the company, including also energy storage and electric cars. According to Tesla’s head, the shingles will be able to outlive the house.
