Dec 11, 2019 13:16 CESTJanuary 10 (Renewables Now) - Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) said it started production of the Solar Roof tiles at its Gigafactory 2 in Buffalo, New York in December.
The solar shingles are an element of a three-part solution, including also energy storage and electric cars. They were first presented in October 2016, while the US company started taking orders at the beginning of May 2017.
The first solar roofs have been installed for employees to test the product. Tesla expects to complete projects for non-employee customers in a few months.
The manufacturing facility in Buffalo operates with support and technology from Japan’s Panasonic Corp (TYO:6752). The plant was originally a project of SolarCity, acquired by Tesla in November 2016.
