British oil and gas major BP Plc (LON: BP) has contracted Technip Energies NV (EPA:TE) to deliver a hydrogen production unit for the Kwinana renewable fuels project in Western Australia.
The French engineering and technology company said in a statement that it was awarded an engineering, production and fabrication (EPF) job for a modularised hydrogen production unit with a capacity of 33,000 normal cubic metres per hour.
The unit will be deployed at BP’s Kwinana biorefinery to produce hydrogen from either natural gas or biogas. The idea is to use hydrogen for the conversion of bio feedstocks into biofuels such as sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and biodiesel.
Technip Energies did not disclose the exact value of the contract but said it is a significant one which puts it between EUR 50 million (USD 54.4m) and EUR 250 million in terms of revenue generation, according to the announcement.
Last week, BP said it finalised the concept development phase study of the green hydrogen project in Kwinana and identified two potential base case scenarios for production.
