September 25 (Renewables Now) - Motech Industries Inc (TPO:6244), the loss-making Taiwanese solar cell maker that recently announced plans for over 300 job cuts, intends to further reduce its headcount by about 2%.

The affected employees will be part of support functions.

Motech said in a statement today that this move is needed so that the company can improve its overall competitiveness in an industry that faces a lot of challenges. Its headcount will amount to 2,600 after the latest layoffs.

This follows the announcement from earlier in September that Motech intends to axe over 300 foreign production workers in advance because of the rapidly changed and uncertain market situation. A few months before that the company said it planned to transfer its wafer production line workers to cell line production.
