Swiss Meyer Burger gets CHF-14m coating systems order

Dec 16, 2013 - Swiss solar equipment maker Meyer Burger (VTX:MBTN) said today it had been awarded a CHF-14-million (EUR 11.5m/USD 15.8m) order for the delivery of coating systems to an unnamed Asian solar cells producer.

The HELiAPECVD and HELiAPVD coating equipment will be part of a heterojunction solar cell production line with a capacity of 2.4 kW/h. The Meyer Burger solutions are to be delivered in the first quarter of next year.

The contract follows two other PV equipment orders announced on Thursday. One of the contracts is for CHF 3.5 million and involves the delivery of Meyer Burger's PiXDRO JETx inkjet printing systems to a 100-MW factory in Malaysia, owned by an unnamed American company. The other CHF 15 million order is for PV upgrade equipment. It comes from an existing Asian customer.

According to Meyer Burger, the manufacturers are willing to invest in their production upgrade due to rising consumer demand which indicates a recovery in the solar sector.
