Swiss EKZ invests in renewable energy

Jul 14, 2011 - Swiss energy supplier Elektrizitaetswerke des Kantons Zurich (EKZ) said today it acquired stakes in a wind park in France and in a solar thermal power plant project in Spain.

The company did not disclose the purchasing price, but said that it plans to invest about CHF 100 million (USD 122.6m/EUR 86.3m) in renewable energy in the next few years.

EKZ bought a 70% stake in French wind onshore park Ternois Sud from German energy company Enertrag AG. The wind farm is expected to produce 33 GWh of electricity per year.

The company also acquired a stake of 6% in solar thermal power project Puerto Errado 2. The facility is scheduled to be constructed by March 2012 and should supply about 50 GWh of electricity per year.

At the start of July, EKZ established together with other Swiss energy suppliers a firm called Terravent AG. It will invest in wind parks in Germany, Spain, France and Italy.
