Swiss EcoSolifer to build PV modules plant in Hungary

Jul 26, 2011 - Swiss-based solar cells producer EcoSolifer AG said today it plans to build a plant for the manufacturing of thin-film silicon photovoltaic (PV) modules in Hungary.

Hungarian subsidiary EcoSolifer Kft expects investment costs of nearly EUR 50 million (USD 72.4m).

Zsolt Becsey, state secretary at the Hungarian ministry of economics, said that the Hungarian government should take a decision on a subsidy for the new plant within a few weeks. Becsey estimates the amount at EUR 3.45 million.

In return, the company will not reduce the staff number at the plant within the first five years. The facility is expected to initially create about 160 jobs whose number may be increased later, EcoSolifer said.

The construction is to begin in September. The facility is expected to be operational in the summer of 2012. Until 2013, exports income from the production in the new plant are to reach EUR 50 million.
