September 10 (Renewables Now) - The American unit of Swedish wind project developer Eolus Vind AB (STO:EOLU-B) has acquired a utility-scale scheme in the western US that combines 500 MW of solar photovoltaic (PV) capacity with 250 MW of battery storage.

The solar-plus-storage project bought by Eolus North America Inc (ENA) is in early development, with an interconnection queue position to deliver power to California. This is the company’s first such development in North America, it said.

Eolus expects the facility to begin commercial operation in 2022. Upon completion the plant will be able to produce up to 1.5 TWh of electricity per year, which would be enough to meet the annual consumption of about 140,000 US homes.
