Survey shows many UK SMEs interested in renewable energy
Feb 10, 2012 - Small to medium enterprises (SMEs) in the UK are becoming more interested in producing renewable energy from their businesses, according to a survey by Opus Energy, a UK gas and electricity supplier to the business sector.
Opus Energy said yesterday that 32% of the SMEs polled expected to install solar arrays, wind turbines or anaerobic digestion systems for instance, while 38% said they were likely to be generating their own renewable power within five years.
The energy provider said the interest could have been prompted by a wish to find new income sources. According to the survey, 42% of businesses would start using renewables to produce part or all of their own power if they were sure to make profit out of it.
A total of 59% believe they would be keen to generate their own electricity if there are government subsidies.
