Suntech to supply solar modules for 23-MW project in California
Aug 25, 2011 - Chinese Suntech Power Holdings Co Ltd (NYSE:STP) said yesterday it would supply the solar panels for a 23-MW solar power project in Niland, California, under a recently signed contract with local SunPeak Solar LLC.
The solar power plant will be built close to the Imperial Irrigation District's (IID) Niland electric substation and natural gas turbine facilities. A unit of SunPeak is in charge of the project's construction.
The facility, whose output in direct current (DC) is 28.7 MW, will include some 100,000 units of Suntech's 285/290W Vd-Series modules. It is estimated to produce enough power for 14,000 local households.
The project will help IDD meet California's Renewable Portfolio Standard which requires electricity service providers to source 33% of retail electricity from renewables by end-2020. It will also help IID meet daily peak electricity demands.
The North American Development Bank has agreed to provide a USD-77.4-million (EUR 53.7m) credit line to back the project.
