Chinese photovoltaics (PV) maker Wuxi Suntech Power Co Ltd today announced the start-up of a 500-MW integrated solar cell and module factory in Indonesia whose capacity should be doubled by the end of the year.
The facility is located on Batam Island and is only 30 nautical miles away from Singapore. It will serve the needs of the Indonesian market and the US, where the company has been having difficulties meeting customers’ strong demand.
With an annual capacity of 500 MW for both cells and modules, the new site will manufacture mono PERC half-cell bifacial modules and 78-cell large-sized panels exceeding 450 W.
The Indonesian plant has taken Suntech’s cumulative module capacity globally to 10 GW. In recent months, the company also expanded its Wuxi and Changzhou sites in China.
